Huntington council hears updates on sidewalks, splash pad, rodeo and arena lights

Huntington — City staff and council members reported a series of public-works and recreation updates at the Feb. 19 Huntington City Council meeting.
A zoning administrator said sidewalk crews are progressing and that crews will move around town and finish projects (4th North/4th West) once UDOT clearance is received for work near the middle school and highway-adjacent segments. "As soon as UDOT has given us the clearance, then we'll finish with that on this side of town," the administrator said.
Councilmembers reported that parts for the splash pad have arrived and that installation will wait until warmer weather so concrete can be poured (targeting April). The city also accepted two bleachers offered by Emery County Recreation to use at the rodeo grounds, and rodeo preparations — including event buckles and additional funding for rough-stock events — are under way.
A resident asked about arena light poles, and council and maintenance staff discussed cutting or digging out poles and salvaging selected poles for posts or flags prior to grading and filling. The council agreed to coordinate work schedules and determine which poles to keep.
The mayor and maintenance reported routine winter operations, snowplowing and shop improvements (new shelving, compressors for the fire shop).
