Huntington — The Huntington City Council on March 19 approved routine business and a string of community requests, voting to accept corrected minutes, grant a home-based business license and provide a $300 donation to Emery High School’s Student Council.
During the opening business the council approved the consent agenda, which included the Jan. 15 and Feb. 19 meeting minutes and city claims and financial reviews after a typographical correction to an abbreviation. Councilmember Judd Beagley moved to approve the minutes with the correction; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with members recording 'Aye.'
The council then considered a home-based business license for a company described as “concrete coatings and crafts,” owned by Carly Kessler. Tom K. moved to approve the home-business license and Lisa Miller seconded the motion; the council approved the application by voice vote.
Cassidy Gilbert, representing Emery High Student Council, asked the council for a donation to fund a graduation-night event intended to keep students safe after commencement. “So we just wanted to ask for a donation for our graduation party,” Gilbert said, describing the event as a safe, all-student gathering. Councilmembers recalled a prior $300 donation and Lisa Miller moved to provide $300 to this year’s event; Judd Beagley seconded and the motion passed.
Later the council approved a request from a local youth baseball team to conduct a curb-address painting fundraiser. The council discussed colors and logistics and approved the project (motion by Gloria Wilson, second by Lisa Miller).
The meeting closed after reports and routine departmental updates. No ordinances were adopted and no formal entitlements were granted beyond the listed approvals. The council adjourned following a final voice vote.
