Kennecott offers community day tickets; residents raise water and code enforcement concerns

Copperton — During the public-comment portion of Wednesday's council meeting, representatives from the Kennecott visitors experience offered Copperton a community day with free tickets and several residents raised utility and code-enforcement concerns.
Representatives identified in the record as Flora and Crystal (Kennecott visitors experience) said Kennecott would make up to 300 free tickets available for a single Copperton community day, provide a dedicated QR code for ticketing, and lead advertising and content creation. Council members selected Aug. 6 as the primary date and Aug. 12 as the backup.
Gary Dunaway told the council that local wells remain under capacity following maintenance, saying the system had dropped to about "330 gallons a minute" and urging conservation until pumps are returned to full operation. He said the well work had required pulling the pump and that repairs to fully restore capacity may not be possible until July.
A separate public comment from a resident identified as Jerry/Jerry Donaway described chronic problems at a neighboring property — multiple people living in trailers, driveway blockages and direct threats. "I'm sick of living in fear," the resident said. Council and staff advised multiple routes: law enforcement for threats, code enforcement for living-in-trailer and parking violations, and civil remedies for private-easement disputes; Detective Holt said he had worked the case, that occupants were given a deadline to leave and that he would follow up and coordinate with code enforcement.
Council directed staff (Dan) to follow up on code enforcement and offered to provide police accompaniment if needed. No formal action was taken during public comment aside from staff follow-up commitments.
