Dell, who said he had followed up with the CFO, described the apparent misallocation and asked the council to pass the budget as presented at the upcoming vote so the total departmental budget remains intact. "What I'm going to ask you to do is that we pass the budget as is tomorrow. I will come back, and I will work on a budget adjustment, essentially," Dell said, adding that if an allocation error exists he would fix it and return with recommended adjustments.
Dell gave an example of a line item that could be adjusted: about $6,000 budgeted for surveillance cameras in precinct operations. Council members stressed that passing the budget as is would not change the total departmental expense but could shift how costs are spread among member jurisdictions and asked staff to follow up quickly.
No formal budget amendment or reallocation was adopted during the meeting; Dell committed to return with a corrected allocation or adjustment if necessary.
