The Huntington City Council held a public hearing June 18 and approved adjustments to the fiscal year 2025 budget and the fiscal year 2026 budget. Following staff presentation of line-item changes across several funds, the council passed two resolutions: one to adjust FY2025 appropriations and a second to adopt the FY2026 budget. The motions passed by voice votes.
During the public hearing staff described adjustments affecting general government, public safety, highways and public improvements, parks and recreation, debt service and capital projects; staff also noted transfers into capital projects and that $30,000 of ARPA funds would be spent in fiscal year 2026. Staff reported total revenue for the FY2026 budget as $1,164,860 and listed expenditures for general government, public safety, highways/public improvements and parks and recreation (presented in the hearing record). After adoption of the budget, council approved a resolution accepting the county-certified tax rate; the rate cited in the record was 0.000697.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Council asked staff to ensure budgeted capital spending and grant-funded projects (including rodeo grounds improvements) are coordinated with project timelines. The council indicated vehicle replacement for city workers will proceed under the approved budget and directed staff to prepare necessary purchase documentation.
