Commissioners emphasized that municipalities may set different rules inside town limits and that the county will not override municipal policies. Staff said they will post public notices to inform visitors of the restrictions.
The meeting also flagged an operational constraint for emergency services: the county’s swinging bridge clearance was described as about 98 inches comfortable (fit without rubbing) and up to about 101 inches in some cases. Commissioners recommended that vehicle teams—especially ambulance crews—record vehicle width limits inside cabs or dashboards so drivers know whether their vehicle will fit without mirror damage or entrapment.
No formal policy change or ordinance was enacted at the meeting; the body agreed to follow state/federal restrictions and to improve public notices and internal guidance for emergency crews. The commission asked staff to confirm town-level fireworks rules with municipal leaders for the July 4th period and to post a clear advisory for visitors.
