Copperton reviews finances, approves $2,531 payment and discusses capital projects

The Copperton Town Council reviewed year-to-date financials and approved routine fiscal items at its Oct. 15 meeting.
Council reported total cash of $545,000 with roughly $200,000 invested. The town’s FY2025 year-end actuals as of 06/30/2025 were included in materials provided to council members. During consent, the council approved payment of $2,531 to Smith Harbison for services rendered in September; the motion was moved, seconded and recorded as unanimous.
Council discussed capital needs and set priorities. Staff said phases 2 and 3 of a sewer project — funded through a federal grant totalling about $3,000,000 — are on hold pending re-award of the grant after federal delays. The chair said the town re-applied in April and that phase 1 was funded through bonds and local cash on hand.
Members also discussed funding for the town’s 100-year celebration and park improvements. The chair asked members to bring formal proposals in December and suggested a budget between $35,000 and $40,000 for a monument or playground equipment, saying, “bring a proposal and leave it to $35,000.”
Councilmembers asked for quarterly presentations going forward so that staff and consultants can answer questions in person; staff said quarterly reports will begin in November.
