Huntington council references State Land Use and Development Management Act in city code

The Huntington City Council on Jan. 21 voted to incorporate language in city code that references the State Land Use and Development Management Act, planning and zoning staff said during the meeting.
Planning and zoning staff explained the change “is not intended to modify policy, but merely to ensure sections of the city code which reference the state's land use and development management” are consistent with state statutes. The council discussed whether the language added substantive requirements and staff clarified it is a reference back to state code rather than a new local law.
A planning and zoning public hearing occurred at the prior body level and staff said the city attorney reviewed the wording. Council members moved and approved adding the language; planning and zoning recommended the change forward to the council following its public hearing.
Council members said the update provides a clearer cross-reference to state statutes and noted it does not supplant the city's existing zoning, subdivision or land-use rules. The motion passed by voice vote.
