Kane County commissioners unanimously approved an updated interlocal cooperation agreement with the Town of Big Water on Dec. 9 to allow Big Water emergency responders to assist with structural and vehicular incidents in unincorporated parts of the county.
County counsel explained the chief substantive change is clarification and separation of definitions for vehicle emergencies and structural fire, plus a safety clause that would prorate the agreed annual payment of $7,500 if the town could not respond because of equipment outages. Big Water Fire Chief Cameron told the commission some SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus) had reached end-of-life and were temporarily out of service, but emphasized, "We're still coming no matter what," explaining tactics would change until new packs arrive.
Commissioners agreed to remove an attached map from the agreement so the authorization covers all unincorporated Kane County and to return a standardized county-format version of the agreement if desired. The motion to adopt the interlocal cooperation agreement passed unanimously.
