Mayfield — The Town Council on Wednesday adopted Resolution 2025-F, an update to the town's 2021 fire-restrictions policy that incorporates Utah's statewide fire restriction orders and clarifies local prohibitions and enforcement.
The resolution prohibits open fires that create sparks or embers (with limited exceptions for cleared propane fire pits), forbids cutting/welding in dry vegetation and bans fireworks outside the state's legal discharge periods (noted in the resolution as July 2'through 5 for Pioneer Day and specified winter/new-year dates). The resolution directs enforcement to county law enforcement and cites penalties for violations "up to 6 months in jail" and fines as high as $5,000.
Council members framed the update as necessary because of record-dry vegetation and heightened fire danger. One resident asked whether someone who starts a fire would be financially liable for another's home; council members said liability can follow from negligence but specifics depend on the circumstances. Council moved and adopted the resolution without recorded opposition.
