Levan receives state OK for federal pickleball grant; second public hearing and bidding next

Town staff announced at the April 10 meeting that Levan has received state approval for federal grant funding to build a pickleball court.
"We've been officially approved by the state for that grant for the Pickleball Court," Speaker 3 told the council, adding that the approval moves the town roughly a quarter of the way through the administrative process. Because the funds are federal, the presenter said the town must follow additional procedural steps, including an all-day meeting in Salt Lake on April 24 for staff and a second public hearing before it can solicit bids.
The town previously received a proposal from Jones & DeMille that put a design/estimate around $150,000, Speaker 3 said, but emphasized the town cannot accept or alter that figure until it issues bids and completes procurement and federal approvals. "We can't start the bidding process or do anything else until somebody goes up to this meeting," the presenter said.
Councilmembers asked about related grants and timing: the town has also been approved for a streetlight grant (status to be confirmed) and some applications for baseball-field and water-regeneration funding remain pending. Staff said they will return with formal hearing notices and next-step schedules to allow required federal procurement steps to proceed.
Next steps: staff plans to send a representative to the April 24 meeting in Salt Lake to continue the process; the council will hold a second public hearing in May as required by the federal grant terms before issuing bid documents.
