Willard planners weigh local ambulance service; funding, county help unresolved

Speaker 3, a member of the Willard City Planning Commission, reported that the commission and mayor’s office discussed options for ambulance service and received a quote from Brigham City to provide service.
"Brigham's last quote we got from Brigham was about $300,000, just over 300,000 to provide the ambulance service," Speaker 3 said. Officials said the decision will hinge on projected revenue and whether the county will contribute to cover calls outside city limits.
Commissioners said the cost comparison with current arrangements is close and that the town does not yet charge for most medical calls; transport charges go to the transporting ambulance provider. Speaker 3 said a study is being prepared to compare the numbers and determine whether the city should raise taxes or add an emergency services fee to support a local ambulance service.
The commission noted that Willard already responds to many calls outside city limits and that county support or an intergovernmental agreement would be necessary if the city is expected to continue providing that coverage.
No final decision was made; staff said the service is not expected to begin before next July and that the commission will await the study’s findings and further discussion with the county before advancing any funding proposal.
