Travel bureau amends bylaws to let board elect its chair annually

The Emery County Travel Bureau voted March 11 to amend its bylaws so that the chairperson is chosen annually by members of the travel bureau rather than automatically being the county commissioner. Board members said the change returns selection of the chair to the local travel bureau while preserving the commissioner’s role as an engaged board participant.
Board members described the previous arrangement as a de facto appointment and said returning the selection to the bureau fosters more direct local leadership. An unidentified board member explained the intent: the commissioner would remain on the board and be active, but the chair would be selected from the travel bureau membership at the bureau’s annual selection in April.
A motion to amend the bylaws was offered and seconded; members voted in favor with multiple "Aye" responses recorded during roll call and the amendment was approved. The board said it will select a new chair in April under the revised rules.
