Council eases headstone size restriction to match industry standard

The Green River City Council approved an amendment to municipal code Aug. 12 removing a 32‑inch height limit on headstones and allowing the standard 36‑inch size used by most memorial carvers.
Presiding Official (S1) told the council the change is intended to align code with industry standards so families are not forced to pay extra to cut standard headstone blocks to meet an obsolete local restriction. "So we're changing this to meet retroactively and also not make anyone stressed... 36 is fine," S1 said.
Council moved and adopted the ordinance by roll call; the vote was unanimous.
Staff said the change is primarily a technical code adjustment to avoid requiring families to alter standard memorial materials and that no retroactive enforcement against existing markers is intended.
