S1 described the rationale for seeking a new auditor: larger firms that specialize in government audits provide experienced teams devoted to audit work and reduce ethical risk from consulting relationships. Council members said Larson and Company’s references checked out and the price was “not a drastic difference” compared with prior arrangements.
The council did not state the exact annual contract amount during the discussion; S1 described it as a “multi‑million contract” requiring roll call. Council indicated staff will continue a separate RFI/interview process to select a consulting monitor.
The contract will take effect following the required administrative steps; city staff said they will schedule interviews for a consulting monitor in the near future.
