Planning commission recommends zone change for Shapiro property in Strawberry Valley Estates

The King County Planning Commission on Oct. 8 recommended that the county commission approve a zone change application by Daniel R. Shapiro to rezone Lot 45-33 in Strawberry Valley Estates from R1Half to R1. The applicant, Dan Shapiro, said he previously combined two lots into one and submitted the application to align county zoning with his intent to add a garage and preserve the option for a secondary dwelling while avoiding conflicts with a homeowners association.

Shannon, county planning staff, told the commission that staff found the application in order, that property notice and posting requirements were met, and that the only correspondence in the file was one email expressing concern about a second home on the lot. Shannon said the county does not enforce homeowners association restrictions and noted the change would place the parcel in a zoning category (R1) consistent with the applicant’s stated plans.

After brief discussion and no public commenters appearing at the virtual hearing, a commissioner moved to recommend approval to the county commission based on the staff report and findings; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
