Scofield council approves fireworks, makes appointments and schedules public hearing on setbacks

At its May 19 meeting the Scofield Town Council approved several routine but consequential items: a $10,000 appropriation from the Pleasant Valley Days fund for fireworks, multiple board appointments, reassignment of council liaisons, the audit cost for the town’s utility fund, and a public hearing to consider changes to lot setbacks.
Fireworks and budget: The council approved $10,000 for Pleasant Valley Days fireworks (the same amount as the previous year), with the funds to come from the Pleasant Valley Days fund.
Appointments: Ron Warren was appointed to Planning & Zoning. The council appointed Brad Parish and Stewart (Stuart) Bailey to the Board of Adjustment; three Board of Adjustment vacancies remain.
Liaison reassignments: Brad Peacock asked to be reassigned from Planning & Zoning to Parks; after motions the council assigned Ralph Brickerhoff as liaison to Planning & Zoning.
Audit cost: The utility fund audit required because project totals exceeded $1,000,000 was completed and cleared by the state; the town paid $14,131.50 for the audit.
Setback public hearing: Council set a public hearing for 6:00 p.m. on June 9 to consider changing side-yard setbacks on narrow, undeveloped lots from 20 feet to 10 feet where appropriate; council members said they want public input before making a final code change.
Transportation follow-up: Council also discussed UDOT denial of crosswalks and the need to survey pedestrian counts on busy weekends; staff and volunteers were asked to follow up with UDOT about signage and count procedures.
