Commission approves library ADA work, assessor remodel, jail softener and youth funding

Emery County commissioners on April 1 approved a series of routine contracts and community funding requests including accessibility improvements, facility maintenance and youth program support.
The board ratified a contract with Arrowhead Construction for the second phase of the Huntington Library entrance project to improve accessibility for people with mobility disabilities; work described included replacing doors with an ADA-compliant exterior glass door, installing an automatic opener, repairing flooring and installing new entryway carpet. Staff said the contract had been signed prior to the meeting to meet a grant deadline and asked the commission to ratify the action.
The commission also approved a separate Arrowhead Construction contract for an assessor's office remodel to remove a direct door into the assessor office and add a security partition; the contract amount recorded in the meeting was $21,600.
Maintenance staff reported the jail's water softener had failed and recommended contracting with Jesse Sloan Plumbing for purchase and installation (the meeting transcript records the amount as under $100 and references difficulties obtaining bids in a small county). The commission approved that contract.
On community funding, students seeking support for the Emery High graduation party asked commissioners for a donation; after discussion the commission approved $550. Commissioners also approved $250 per student for Boys State / Girls State attendees following a request by students representing the programs.
Commissioners encouraged local contractors to register with county maintenance staff for future bids; maintenance provided a contact phone number for contractors. All motions on these items passed by voice vote.
