Board members reported that Mayor Leonard has resigned from the Emery County Economic Development Board, creating a vacancy for the municipal representative slot. Members reviewed the board composition in the bylaws — county representative, municipal representative, workforce development, private sector and a county resident — and agreed the current categories are covered but that an additional member would be useful.
Members discussed whether to appoint or advertise the vacancy. A board member noted appointments are made by the county legislative body and recommended opening the application to residents, property owners, business operators or employees of the county. Because newspaper advertising is expensive, members suggested combining notices with other boards and using the county website, social media, local posting points and word of mouth.
The board moved and seconded to charge Natalie with preparing and circulating the advertisement for a community at-large/municipal representative slot; members agreed to distribute a flyer through local channels once Natalie prepares it.
