Kane County officials told the commission on May 27 they received a Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) allocation of roughly $3.4 million toward the Coral Pink Sand Dunes Road project. Combined with prior state and federal contributions (including about $1.48 million from state parks and $2 million from Utah’s recreation hotspot fund reported in the meeting), commissioners said the funding pot for the project totals approximately $12 million and UDOT will implement the project.
The chair said UDOT will issue a request for qualifications in the coming weeks, after which engineering and construction firms will be invited to bid; on-the-ground construction work is expected to start next year. County staff emphasized local match requirements are being covered by partner contributions so county taxpayers are not expected to fund the project directly.
The county auditor also reported the annual audit was completed with no major exceptions and provided a quarterly budget status overview. Staff will present the final audit when component-unit reporting is complete.
