Commission reappoints Joseph Sorensen and Kevin Barnes to Economic Opportunity Board

The Kane County Commission unanimously approved Resolution R2025-13 on May 27 to reappoint Joseph Sorensen and Kevin Barnes to two-year terms on the Kane County Economic Opportunity Board. The chair opened a public hearing on the reappointments; no members of the public spoke for or against the nominations.

The chair described board composition requirements and noted there is no cap on membership; the positions are categorized by role (one municipal representative and one private-sector representative). The chair thanked both appointees for their service and said the state’s Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity allocates $200,000 a year to participating counties contingent on having the board in place; the board advises the commission on economic-development and defense-related recommendations.

The commission voted unanimously to adopt the resolution; the chair thanked the appointees for representing their communities and supporting workforce and infrastructure development.
