Mayfield, Utah — Mayfield staff reported favorable results from a recent water-system survey and described a proposal to use overflow water for aquifer recharge to dilute elevated nitrates and increase available supply.
Survey results: Town staff and state division staff inspected springs, tanks and wells and found overall strong system performance; minor maintenance was noted (a gasket at a spring box and a small seep at a tank) and staff will complete repairs.
Aquifer recharge proposal: Staff described plans to run approximately 200 feet of additional piping from the lowest tank to allow overflow to be recharged into the town well. Council discussed how recharge could dilute nitrate concentrations (the town reported nitrate measurements near 11 mg/L after a state standard change) and noted that recharge could recover roughly 50% of water volume put in, with estimates of substantial monthly volumes available for recharge.
Operations and safety: Council members discussed hydrant testing, flushing of dead‑end lines, and ongoing monitoring; the town noted an existing cross‑connection and reporting program and said further work will proceed after staff provides a cost and implementation estimate.
