Mayfield council reviews $337,627 tentative FY2026 budget, defers final vote pending closed session

Mayfield, Utah — The Mayfield Town Council reviewed a tentative fiscal year 2026 general-fund budget of $337,627 at its May 14 meeting and postponed final adoption pending matters to be taken up in a closed session.

Town clerk Amanda presented the proposed budget, saying it includes a 3% across-the-board inflation adjustment, increased pay for the town clerk and staff and an adjustment for council and mayor compensation to move pay toward the 25th percentile for comparable positions statewide. Amanda said the tentative budget must be adopted now to meet statutory timing requirements, with a full public hearing and final budget adoption scheduled in June.

Council discussion focused on accounting-line questions, including depreciation entries that appear in the utility fund. Members asked staff to follow up with the town's accounting provider (Pelorus) and provide a detailed list of depreciated items and a clarification of why depreciation appears in the utility fund rather than the general fund.

The council also discussed road maintenance plans (crack sealing and a multi-year chip-seal cycle), grant-funded sidewalk design and the need to set aside roughly $5,700 to balance the draft. The council agreed to defer voting on the tentative budget until after a closed session on pending litigation and personnel matters that could affect published budget items.

What’s next: The tentative budget will be posted for public inspection and the council will advertise a public hearing in June for final adoption; staff will return with accounting clarifications requested by council members.
