State CDBG rep urges Clawson to complete income survey; Jan. 15 and Jan. 31 deadlines noted

Clawson — Corinne Olsen, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) representative, told the council Clawson must complete an income survey for a road segment that crosses county property before the state can consider a grant application. She said the income-survey hard cutoff is Jan. 15 and the state’s application portal closes Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.; Emery County’s failure to attend an application workshop may make them ineligible this year, in which case the town would either apply alone or prepare to partner next year.
Olsen recommended two immediate actions: provide a list of all residential addresses along the target road (and a town-wide residential list) so the state can preapprove survey forms, and identify site-specific preferences for a parks project. She noted parks with ADA-accessible playground equipment, restrooms and accessible curb and gutter typically score well for CDBG funding.
Why it matters: Securing CDBG funds could help pay for park improvements and accessibility upgrades that the town otherwise might not be able to afford. Olsen offered to assist with survey forms and the web-grants process and warned that the county’s inaction this year may require a co-application strategy in a later cycle.
Next steps: The council agreed to compile residential-address lists and to consider a park-focused project as a primary backup if the county’s application is not feasible this cycle.
