The Clawson Town Council reviewed proposed revisions to the FY2025 budget and a draft 2026 tentative budget and approved the tentative budgets for both years, with a public hearing scheduled next month before final adoption.
Speaker 6 presented the revised 2025 figures, noting increases for insurance and parts-and-materials, adjustments to class C road funds to reflect completed streetlight and snowplow work, and suggested moving some capital funds between projects to balance accounts. Speaker 6 said the 2026 draft included $222,840 in capital outlay that the council must decide whether to earmark for parks, cemetery, or other capital projects.
Councilors moved and seconded a motion to accept the tentative 2025 and 2026 budgets "as presented" and recorded a voice approval. Speaker 6 reminded the council a public hearing is required next month before formal adoption and that the town should accept public comment, close the hearing and then pass the revised budget at a subsequent meeting.
Members also discussed immediate maintenance priorities tied to the budgets, such as cemetery irrigation improvements, possible sod purchases for graves and a sod cutter, and whether to allocate funds now or later. No final budget adoption occurred at the meeting; the tentative budgets were approved to advance to the required public hearing.
