Georgia Humanities asks for state support to back America250 programming and local grants

She said Georgia Humanities has been ‘‘careful stewards of public funds’’ and that the nonprofit has leveraged state support into matching funds and private philanthropy following recent federal funding losses. Mary told the committee Georgia Humanities reaches thousands of students and teachers annually through programs such as Museum on Main Street and the Voices and Votes exhibition and requested continued support for the organization’s statewide grant program.
Mary also said the organization is prepared to help communities across Georgia commemorate America’s 250th anniversary through traveling exhibits and civic-engagement activities, but that the timing and amount of federal restoration of funding remain uncertain. She closed by respectfully requesting the committee’s support for the governor’s recommended investment and offered to take questions from members.
The subcommittee did not take formal action; members thanked Mary for the presentation and attendance by a special guest in support.
