The Culture and Leisure Services Advisory Board on an unspecified date recommended Joyce Downing for appointment to a vacant advisory-board seat and elected Brad Prevell as chair and Betsy Rock as vice chair.
Downing, who said she has lived near the city facilities for 25 years, told the board she volunteers at city events and has a background in health care, including “I was a physical therapist for 30 odd years.” She said she wants to help preserve and improve recreational and cultural offerings for residents.
Board members moved and seconded a recommendation that Downing be forwarded for formal appointment; the board then recorded roll-call approval. The board also held a secret-ballot selection for leadership: members named Brad Prevell chair (he accepted) and Betsy Rock vice chair; both officer selections were subsequently moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
The board approved the motions and minutes earlier in the meeting and added the interview item to the agenda before voting. Staff said they would forward the board’s recommendation to the appointing authority for final action.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:20 p.m.; staff listed follow-up items including distribution of meeting materials to members who requested them.
