Polk County signals consensus to vacate inactive West Valley Housing Authority board seat

During a public hearing Jan. 28, Polk County staff told the Board of Commissioners that Jacqueline Jamieson, the housing authority’s service‑recipient board member, has not engaged with the West Valley Housing Authority Board for over a year and recommended the county remove her for neglect of duty.
County staff explained state law gives county commissioners the authority to appoint and remove housing authority board members and described the two‑step process the county follows: first create a vacancy through removal, then the housing authority will vet service‑recipient candidates and forward nominees for appointment. Staff said Jamieson did not attend meetings, did not return calls or emails and was not present at the hearing to make a case to remain on the board.
The board signaled consensus to vacate the seat; staff said they would prepare an order for the consent calendar next week to create the paper trail necessary for removal. Staff also said the housing authority will work from its own client lists to identify potential service‑recipient candidates to fill the vacancy and will return nominees to the commissioners for approval.
The chair confirmed there would be no executive session on the matter and adjourned the meeting.
