Copperton council approves minutes, pays attorney invoice and accepts quarterly financial report

Copperton — The Copperton Town Council approved its consent agenda Wednesday, accepting the meeting minutes and authorizing payment of an attorney invoice for $2,643. The body also accepted a quarterly financial report presented by Stuart Acobia, director of finance for the MST.
Acobia told the council the town’s unassigned general fund balance is $417,980.11 and that $176,003.92 is restricted for capital projects. He said an ‘‘on the side’’ fund has $67,704.50 in unassigned balance, and that other small fund balances and interest earnings total roughly $21,000. Acobia noted CARES and ARPA funds are tracked together and must be spent according to federal and state restrictions.
Council members asked how to use a small beer-tax distribution (about $1,000) and discussed options including directing it to UPD or county programs. After discussion, the council moved and seconded approval of the quarterly report and voted in favor.
The meeting also included approvals of the proposed 2026 council meeting schedule, which the council adopted with no changes for posting to the public notice website.
