At the July 15 meeting, library staff presented the draft 2026 budget and described staffing changes made after a recent departure. Melanie Peterson was promoted into a 29-hour, nonbenefited position, janitorial coverage was adjusted with Rebecca Lam taking on additional county facility work, and those personnel changes are expected to reduce the library’s full-time salary and benefits costs.
Staff estimated roughly $62,000–$63,000 in reduced operations next year as a result of these shifts; the director said the savings should reduce how much the library draws on reserves and help keep digital subscriptions such as OverDrive funded if the state steps in after federal grant reductions.
The board also heard that the library received a $5,000 Library Service and Technology grant to replace most patron public computers at the Roosevelt branch. Staff noted that federal IMLS funding for library grants is uncertain for 2026 and said the Utah State Library will need to seek state support to sustain services previously subsidized with federal dollars.
Board members discussed advertising and outreach options, the cost per Hoopla checkout versus OverDrive, and monitoring circulation trends; no budget items were formally adopted at the meeting — the presentation was positioned as a review ahead of later budget action.
