The Fillmore City Council on July 1 opened a public hearing on Ordinance 25-02, a proposed new chapter to regulate signs across the city, and then voted to table the ordinance for further review.
Planner (Speaker 7) explained that the draft chapter covers a broad set of sign types — billboards, building signs, temporary signs such as yard- or real-estate signs — and focuses on size, placement and allowable types rather than message content. Council members said the draft includes many red-line edits and zone charts; one member asked for a cleaned Word version and asked staff to add the diagram for awning signs.
After discussion, Speaker 3 moved to table the item so members could read the document and review the proposed charts; Speaker 4 seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Several members noted the substance is substantial but that much of the 26 pages is charting and that roughly 11 pages contain the substantive changes.
What’s next: Staff will circulate an edited Word version without redlines and include the awning-diagram requested by the planner. The council will revisit Ordinance 25-02 at a future meeting after members have had time to review the revised materials.
