At its May 1 meeting the Bicknell Town Council approved a tentative budget draft with a set of changes intended to increase maintenance capacity for parks and roads and to support community events.
Council members agreed to move $10,000 from capital projects into repairs and maintenance and to allocate a total of $25,000 toward road repairs and crack sealing. One member noted that $25,000 “won't go very far” for chip-seal work but agreed it could fund significant crack sealing. The council discussed options including phased work, crack sealing now and chip seal later, and using existing town equipment (broom/tractor) for shoulder and minor repairs.
Separately, the board reviewed summer-event planning: the July community celebration date was moved from July 24 to July 19, the town will provide the main dinner and the school may run fundraising booths (cotton candy, snow cones, lemonade). The council discussed band logistics, a magic show for children and limits on outside food vendors; the motion to forward the budget draft with the discussed changes passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will obtain bids for road work, confirm contractor availability for crack sealing, and finalize event logistics and advertising (including clear pricing for food and fundraising booths).
