Council approves community donations, schedules holiday events

Huntington — The Huntington City Council voted at its Nov. 19 meeting to fund several local community initiatives and laid out plans for holiday events.
Council approved a $500 donation to the Shop with a Cop program after a motion by Gloria Wilson and a second; the motion carried on a voice vote. Separately, council approved a $300 donation to a local volunteer group that asked for support during the meeting. The council also approved a $150 donation to the Huntington Elementary PTO to support school activities.
Council members and the mayor discussed community holiday activities: a city employee appreciation luncheon on Dec. 10, a council Christmas dinner on Dec. 4, and filling Christmas bags on Dec. 2 at 5:00 p.m. The mayor encouraged residents to notify the city if they know families in need so the city can direct help to local organizations.
The motions to donate were approved by voice vote and will be paid from the city’s general fund; staff will complete the payment and filing paperwork.
The council did not place conditions on the grants beyond recording the donations in the minutes and directing staff to complete follow-up administrative steps.
