Commission votes to send change to city council to tie temporary RV living to active building permits

HUNTINGTON — At its Nov. 13 meeting the Planning and Zoning Commission voted to send a recommended change to section 9-8 (temporary RV living) to city council. Commissioners discussed replacing the ordinance's current six-month limit with language allowing a personal RV to remain on a construction site "during the term of the building permit," which would permit longer stays when a permit is renewed.
Supporters said the change would reflect common construction timelines and avoid penalizing homeowners or contractors when work is delayed. One commissioner noted building permits can be renewed with justification and that tying the allowance to an active permit would allow administrative checks: "If there's not a current [building permit] ... then we can send a notice saying you're not within compliance," a commission member said.
A motion to send the adjusted wording to city council was made and seconded; the motion carried. The commission recommended city council consider substituting "residents with an active building permit" in place of the fixed six-month language and asked city staff to present the revised text at the council's next meeting.
