At its Dec. 17 meeting, the Huntington City Council approved several community items and heard public updates.
Public comment: Resident Kim Birkinshaw described attending drone light shows in Price and Ogden and encouraged Huntington to consider a similar event; she cited a baseline vendor cost of about $15,000 for a 20–30 minute program and suggested the school grounds as a possible venue. Council said it would "look into it and take under advisement."
Donation to American Legion: Jerry Livingston, representing the American Legion, outlined needs for veteran assistance, Boys State funding and funeral support. Council moved and approved a $400 donation to the American Legion; the motion was seconded and passed by recorded 'Aye' responses.
Fence variance: The council considered a variance request (recommended by planning and zoning) related to the Davis property next to a councilmember; the approved variance requires moving the fence back 15 feet at the corner so the fence sits on a diagonal to keep the corner clear. Council voted to approve the variance after a motion and second.
Staff and planning updates: The mayor and staff reported completion of a sewer project near BK’s, noted a transfer of ownership at the BK Stop and Stop business, and outlined sidewalk project changes (cancelling a sidewalk on 60 East, prioritizing the Ravelli sidewalk and a 30-foot section on 2nd South). The council also announced it will post for a new planning and zoning/code-enforcement hire following a retirement. Planning and zoning reported a developer from Richfield is exploring affordable-home construction on Green Grove and that one citizen withdrew a temporary-single-wide request.
The council adjourned after a final motion and recorded 'Aye' votes.
