Huntington’s City Council on Dec. 17 adopted Ordinance 1-20-26, a three-part privacy policy the city’s attorney prepared and the council was required to adopt.
City staff described the package as three parts: the formal policy text, an internal document that lists responsible personnel and their required training, and an Exhibit B intended for posting on the city website. An official told council members the internal portion is approximately 25 pages and that those named in the internal document will be responsible for required training and compliance. “My name has to be all over it,” an official said when discussing the internal assignment of responsibility.
Council moved, seconded and recorded 'Aye' votes to adopt the ordinance. Officials said the document will be posted on the city website and that staff will make the internal training and role assignments available to council for review.
The ordinance was presented as an administrative requirement drafted by counsel rather than a policy change initiated by council members; staff will follow up with implementation steps, including posting Exhibit B online and documenting the training plan.
