Willard, Utah — The Willard City Planning Commission voted on Sept. 18 to set a public hearing on amendments that would extend a commercial corridor along Highway 89 through Old Town Willard and add an Old Town Willard zoning category to the Table of Uses.
During discussion several commissioners objected to two conditional uses shown in the draft: slaughterhouses and transportation/trucking. One commissioner said, "I don't wanna butcher shop," and multiple members said those uses are inconsistent with Old Town character and should be removed or changed to ‘not allowed’ rather than conditional.
Staff noted the table in the draft is not final and that conditional status allows the commission review of large-impact uses. After agreeing to remove or revise the slaughterhouse and trucking entries, the commission moved and seconded to set a public hearing and approved the motion by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will prepare public-notice materials for a scheduled October hearing and will return ordinances with the proposed revisions for the public record and subsequent deliberation.
