Willard planning commission sets October public hearing to add sensitive wetlands to future land-use map

Willard, Utah — The Willard City Planning Commission on Sept. 18 voted to set a public hearing in October to consider amending the city’s future land-use map (chapter 3 of the general plan adopted March 2024) to expand the map’s environmental-sensitive areas to include sensitive wetlands.
Planner Maddie said staff updated maps and ordinances over the past 18 months to bring the general plan into alignment with recent work and that the new map includes corrections for Old Town Willard. "We've updated maps and ordinances, and so this is just capturing our general plan up with those," Maddie told the commission.
Commission discussion clarified that "riparian" refers to the wetted area along a stream or river and that the city likely has a small riparian zone along a local creek. Commissioners agreed to schedule a public hearing so members of the public can comment; the commission made and seconded a motion to set the hearing and approved it by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will publish required public-notice materials and hold the public hearing in October; the record from that hearing will inform whether the general plan and related ordinances are amended.
