Emery County reopens business grant program; MOU to have business chamber administer applications

County staff and Patsy Stoddard announced that the rural business grant program is open for applications through Jan. 31. Patsy Stoddard said the county's allocation comes from a rural county grant pool that awards $200,000 to rural counties; Emery County's committee allocated $115,000 for this round. Last year the program received 30 applications and funded 15 businesses, prioritizing applicants who had not received funding previously.
Stoddard said eligible projects include remodels, new buildings, signage, website development and equipment purchases. The program is reimbursable: applicants must spend funds and submit receipts for reimbursement and have six months to complete projects (extensions can be requested). Two previously funded projects did not follow through and those funds will return to the pool.
The commission approved an MOU between the county, the Emery County CED board and the Emery County Business Chamber to run the grant program; staff and the chamber will distribute the application and manage the review committee. Commissioners asked staff to circulate the application to their contacts and confirmed the chamber will help with outreach in Green River and other towns.
