Emery County approves updated law-enforcement contract with BLM

The Emery County Commission on Oct. 7 approved a revised contract with the Bureau of Land Management for law-enforcement services.
A county official who described the change said the BLM shifted the contract from per-hour billing to guaranteed periodic payments, which the speaker said results in higher annual revenue while keeping or slightly reducing the county’s committed hours. The county official also said the new arrangement simplifies reporting requirements.
The motion to accept the contract was made and seconded; the vote passed by recorded affirmative votes from commissioners present.
County leaders thanked the sheriff’s office for its work and noted the contract will provide a steadier funding stream for BLM-related patrol hours.
