Commission approves amended Green River solar project area plans, shrinking both project footprints

The Emery County Commission approved two ordinances amending the Green River 1 and Green River 2 solar project area plans and associated budgets after the countyCRA board recommended removing parcels no longer needed as projects neared completion.
Sherry Jordan of the Utah Association of Counties, who works with the countyCRA agency, told the commission the amendments remove parcels the agency no longer needs to include in the project areas, reducing each project by roughly 1,000 acres. Jordan said removing acreage that will not be used prevents property owners from facing greenbelt rollback taxes (payback of the difference between the greenbelt rate and the regular tax rate for five years) for unused land.
The ordinances were presented as technical amendments to align the project area and budget with the current development footprint; commissioners approved both ordinances in motion votes recorded in the meeting.
