Midway water board recommends conservative water allocation for proposed Michie Lane stake center

The Midway Water Advisory Board recommended approval on Jan. 5 of staff’s conservative water‑use calculation for a proposed LDS stake center on Michie Lane, while asking staff to add local usage data to the record.

Staff said the site is an 18.61‑acre lot of record with 4.85 acres to be developed for the church and that the project will connect to city culinary water, MSD sewer and the Midway Irrigation Company secondary line. Staff presented historical local data for comparable stake centers and recommended treating the new building like existing local stake centers for culinary use.

Mike, the presenting staff member, explained the numeric basis: “0.8 again is what a normal home connection is, but it looks like it's gonna cover the amount needed for the church based off of what the stake center is using just a block from here.” He described the site as 4.85 acres with 3.4 acres impervious and 1.48 acres of irrigated area (about 4.4 acre‑feet for outside irrigation). Internally, staff counted roughly 29 fixtures plus a baptismal font and said a culinary allocation of 0.8 acre‑feet is conservative compared with nearby stake centers that use tens of thousands of gallons annually.

Board members asked for additional supporting data, including comparisons to stake centers elsewhere in the valley. After discussion, a motion to recommend approval passed (motion made and seconded; board voted in favor). The board noted the applicant must still pursue the city conditional‑use permit and that applicants will pay standard impact fees for the requested connection size.
