Gunnison — Planning and administrative items filled much of the council’s agenda as staff presented text amendments to the land‑use code and a new records‑management policy.
A planner walked council members through a proposed hospital zone amendment that consolidates definitions, aligns front‑setback standards with Main Street requirements and clarifies permitted and accessory uses. The planner said the amendment relocates regulations that had been mixed into the definitions section back into the regulatory portion of the code and tailors the hospital zone so certain residential uses (for example, accessory dwelling units) are handled consistently with state requirements.
On records management, staff presented Resolution 2025‑16, which lays out record classifications, a retention schedule, departmental responsibilities and a log for tracking destroyed records. The records lead said the policy will be a "living document," reviewed periodically and followed by staff training to implement consistent filing and labeling practices.
Council members asked implementation questions, including whether a part‑time position would be needed to manage records cleanup and how electronic records would be handled alongside physical files. Staff said the first step will be to categorize current files and begin phased cleanup and training.
What's next: Staff will return with any revised code language and a recommended implementation plan for the records policy, including schedule and resource needs.
