Duchesne County Library board: strategic plan largely on track; children's program, outreach and new digital services next steps

The Duchesne County Library Board reviewed progress on its 2025 strategic plan on Nov. 18, with Director Daniel Markley reporting most goals are complete or in progress but a few remain stalled.
Markley told the board that “lots of progress” has been made, noting many items are marked green while some are yellow and a few are red. He said a monthly children's craft and art program has not yet launched, explaining staff have focused on other priorities this year.
“We do need to promote the online databases a little better,” Markley said, adding staff training on those resources is complete but broader promotion is needed. He also recommended a communications survey to assess the value of the annual mailer, social media and the digital newsletter.
The director described Project REIT as prepared to move forward and called Blackstone Unlimited a near-ready addition to the library's catalog. “Blackstone Unlimited is a new program,” Markley said, and patrons can already try it by downloading the app and adding a Duchesne library card.
Board members praised the progress and asked staff to track outstanding red items for follow-up in 2026. The director said the document is "a living document," with some 2026 items already underway.
Next steps include conducting the recommended communications survey and setting priorities in the strategic plan update for 2026.
