Fire department reports eight calls; mobile radio installation scheduled for February

Councilmember Karen Caldwell reported the department responded to eight calls in the last reporting period: four medical calls, three structural calls and one ‘‘fire unknown’’ that responders extinguished without determining the cause. She said training plans remain the same and that members had submitted required documents to the county fire marshal to allow driving and response in county areas, particularly for wildland incidents.
Caldwell told the council that mobile radio installations are scheduled to begin in February and that the department is still searching for a replacement for Tender 81. She also advised residents to clear drains and ditches ahead of warm weather, cautioned that ice is thinning on ponds and lakes, and urged preparation for wildfire risk by clearing excess foliage.
A council member noted that one of the engines needs new tires and that two bids have been received; the mayor said he will bring that item to the next meeting for action.
