Sigurdtown — The Sigurdtown Council voted Feb. 5 to move its regular schedule to the first and third Wednesdays of each month, holding a 6:00 p.m. work meeting followed by a 7:00 p.m. council meeting.
Supporters said more frequent meetings would allow the council to act on time-sensitive grants and items more quickly. “We think that if we go every two weeks it’ll keep us more on track and ... get items done,” a council member said during discussion of the proposal. Another member described a nearby town that uses a work meeting followed by a shorter public council meeting and said the approach reduced public interruptions and sped decisions.
A motion to adopt the schedule — with the work session at 6 p.m. and the council meeting at 7 p.m. — was moved and seconded and the motion passed. The council discussed whether to set meetings as first-and-third or some other pattern; members agreed to first-and-third Wednesdays.
The change is intended to reduce the backlog of items and make the council more responsive to grant windows, permit timelines and department needs. Council members asked staff to set the calendar and to coordinate times with other local boards so meetings do not conflict.
The meeting to implement the new schedule will be set by staff and posted on the town’s usual public-notice channels.
