SIGURD — The Sigurd Town Council on April 16 approved several routine and land-use actions, including a revised flag-lot ordinance, a temporary conditional-use permit for a resident to live in an RV, and the town's minutes and bills for the month.
In a single action on a longstanding planning item, council members voted to adopt the flag-lot ordinance that had been drafted last year but not previously voted. The approved version permits flag lots only if they meet specified safety and access stipulations and adds an explicit requirement that each flag-lot driveway have a street-facing sign at the road. Council members said the sign is intended to aid emergency responders and delivery drivers.
Council also signed a conditional-use permit allowing a property owner, identified in the permit as Mr. Olsen, to reside in an RV on his property for a six-month period ending Sept. 19, 2025. The permit incorporates conditions from the Central Utah Health Department (CUHD) and town staff: the RV may not be parked in the road right-of-way; the occupancy is temporary and the RV cannot be made into a permanent structure; sewage may not be dumped on-site; the owner must use existing water service (no new meter); a permanent shade structure is prohibited; and the RV must meet fire-code standards. Council agreed to provide the permittee a signed copy.
On routine governance items, Councilman Adi Ector moved to approve the minutes from the April 2, 2025 meeting and the motion passed with vocal assent. The council also reviewed and approved the bills for April (accrued in March 2025) after discussion of monthly and quarterly financial tabulations and a small penalty item noted in the packet.
What happens next: The flag-lot ordinance's new signage requirement will be applied as the town processes future flag-lot applications; the RV permit is effective for six months and requires the property owner to re-apply before its September expiration if continued occupancy is sought.
