The Emery County travel/trails committee approved last month’s minutes and spent the meeting reviewing fieldwork, upcoming projects and grant applications.
Committee members reported extensive county and BLM grader work, noting roads and airstrip at Hidden Splendor had been graded and several dugways and culverts were improved. Members flagged a few hazardous washouts and a 4–5 foot drop on South Cold Wash that staff said they would prioritize for repair.
BLM and travel office staff said several grants are pending: an RTP application for mountain‑bike equipment and trail support, an OHV grant to fund a volunteer OHV coordinator position (to organize more weekend volunteer projects) and a request to replace an OHV trailer and purchase a jackhammer and tracks. The travel office also applied for two OHR grants to fund a trail crew for 2025–26 and listed partners that wrote letters of support. In parallel, staff said they will self‑fund an immediate skid‑plate purchase rather than wait for grant funding for urgent repairs.
Seasonal staffing and events: two seasonal hires (Steve Durant and Dirk Thompson) were confirmed to return; Jills Valley (12 Mile) campground and lower Huntington access were reported opening as snow recedes. Members previewed an upcoming rally with 170+ registered bikes and a May 2 volunteer workday at Lit tles Creek (10 a.m. at Cuppa Joe's) with Forest Service oversight and lunch provided.
Procedural items: a motion to approve the prior meeting minutes was made, seconded, recorded as approved, and the meeting was later adjourned on a motion by Terry.
Next steps: staff will continue equipment procurement, finalize grant applications and share project dates for spring work with the committee.
