BLM staff told the Emery County travel-and-trails committee that the state land exchange with SITLA has been signed and is moving through deed processing, a change that will require updates to maps and travel-management materials used by the public and by partner mapping vendors.
“We saw on the news that that was actually signed,” Jayden, a BLM staff member, told the committee. Jayden said the exchange will shift about 100,000 acres in the San Rafael Swell recreation area and that updated maps have not yet been published because deeds and administrative processing are still underway.
Jayden urged patience: mapping platforms such as Avenza and third‑party trail apps will be updated after the land status is finalized, and some transfers may require additional administrative steps such as grazing‑permit transfers and possible NEPA depending on local proposals. “Everything's been signed and official, but the deeds are still processing,” Jayden said.
Committee members raised questions about where the swapped lands will affect Emery County revenue and management. Jayden noted the county could still receive a portion of revenues when lands are connected to larger state or federal holdings, though some mineral or surface revenue flows will shift between counties. The committee agreed to monitor the mapping updates and requested that staff share an online map or link once the new boundaries are published.
Next steps included sharing the published exchange map with the committee and revising downloadable trail maps once the land status is complete.
