Emery County commissioners voted to provide a $5,000 monetary donation to the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show for its July 9–12, 2025 event in Castle Dale.
Kaylee Morris, a fundraising representative for the show, thanked commissioners for prior support and asked the county to repeat last year’s contribution and to sponsor the event’s "best of the swell" belt buckle. "We're asking if you guys would like to donate what you did last year of 5,000," Morris said, describing judging criteria that include required clinics, showmanship, record books and rate-of-gain for market animals.
An unidentified commissioner moved to approve the $5,000 donation with a stipulation to support all contest species, including rabbits; the motion was seconded and carried with the commissioners present voting in favor.
Organizers said the awards ceremony is intended to recognize top performers across species and that county officials presenting the buckle is meaningful to participants. The county did not specify the budget line sponsoring the payment during the meeting.
The commission approved the donation as part of its regular meeting on Feb. 4, 2025. No conditions or follow-up tasks were announced at the meeting.
